In this image, Dennis Fisher discusses his efforts in 1984 to have a re-enactment of Gabriel Dumont, Michel Dumas, and James Isbister ‘s delegation to St. Peter`s, Montana which attempted to persuade Louis Riel to come to Batoche to lead the fight for Métis and Half-breed rights in 1884. Two smaller images show the historical re-enactment. In 1999, Dennis Fisher put together this album and entitled it the ``Gabriel Dumont Album.`` The album largely focuses on items relating to Gabriel Dumont such as Dennis and Bill Epp`s correspondence regarding the creation of the Gabriel Dumont statue, Dennis`s finding of a ``lost`` image of Gabriel Dumont at the Buffalo Bill Cody Museum in Wyoming, information relating to an image of Dumont in a Wild West show program; a document in which Dumont attempts to write his name, a chronology of Dumont`s life, a program relating to the closing of Gabriel`s Ferry, various images relating the Commemorate `85 Celebrations in Saskatoon which honoured Gabriel Dumont, as well as facsimiles of Dumont`s stamp, and a pamphlet by Agriculture Canada promoting ``Dumont Oats.`` Other items relate to Madeleine Dumont`s grave in Montana as well as information about Louis Riel including a timeline of his life, and information relating to the acquisition of his diary by Dennis Fisher and Eugène Rhéaume. |
