Description: | This image is an actual photocopy of the original Louis Riel diary in which Riel documents his surrender to General Middleton. In 1999, Dennis Fisher put together this album and entitled it the ``Gabriel Dumont Album.`` The album largely focuses on items relating to Gabriel Dumont such as Dennis and Bill Epp`s correspondence regarding the creation of the Gabriel Dumont statue, Dennis`s finding of a ``lost`` image of Gabriel Dumont at the Buffalo Bill Cody Museum in Wyoming, information relating to an image of Dumont in a Wild West show program; a document in which Dumont attempts to write his name, a chronology of Dumont`s life, a program relating to the closing of Gabriel`s Ferry, various images relating the Commemorate `85 Celebrations in Saskatoon which honoured Gabriel Dumont, as well as facsimiles of Dumont`s stamp, and a pamphlet by Agriculture Canada promoting ``Dumont Oats.`` Other items relate to Madeleine Dumont`s grave in Montana as well as information about Louis Riel including a timeline of his life, and information relating to the acquisition of his diary by Dennis Fisher and Eugène Rhéaume.
This scrapbook is part of the Dennis and Jean Fisher Collection. This collection contains archaeological artifacts taken from the battlefields of the 1885 Resistance as well as Fort Pitt (Saskatchewan), Cumberland House (Saskatchewan), and St. Peter`s Mission, Montana. The collection also includes various artifacts and ephemera relating to the 1885 Resistance and Gabriel Dumont. |
